Jackson was easy to photograph, particularly in images taken with his companion. Post-production retouching focused on recovering detail from the shadows created by the lighting and removing minor skin blemishes while keeping the image natural.

What Was Done

  • The shadows were lightened in Adobe Photoshop , so as to reveal the hidden detail.
  • To create natural, healthy-looking skin tones, various color samples were made of the subject's skin. The airbrush tool was used to smoothen uneven skin tone.
  • The healing-brush tool was then used to remove skin blemishes.
  • The brightness-contrast and exposure levels were adjusted to reintroduce some of the natural light fall against the skin.
  • The retouched photo was copied, RGB desaturated, converted to black and white.
