German-Irish-Mexican Model, Josh Schaffer

Josh was an expressive model with a rugged, artistic personality. The retouching intentionally preserved natural skin texture and many of the imperfections that supported his outdoorsy, adventure-seeking, grunge-musician persona, while also exploring several different colour and finishing treatments.

What Was Done

  • The shadows were lightened in Adobe Photoshop, so as to reveal the hidden detail.
  • To soften the shadows, yet maintain a hard, rugged exterior, the AI touch-up tool in PortraitProfessional was used, in conjunction with applying a 50% opacity airbrushed, natural skin tone layer in Adobe Photoshop.
  • The colour photo was duplicated, and then converted to black and white.
  • The black and white photo was duplicated, and then colourized, using a gradient color overlay.
