ABOUT MERLE & HOLLIS
Merle and Hollis first interaction started between 1956 and 1959 when as young adults they were members of the Youth Fellowship group at the 40 Carlos street Church Of God in Woodbrook, Port of Spain, Trinidad. During that period they shared a Sunday School teaching assignment of the Junior class and worked in harmony in exercising their talents and the call of God for deeper service in their lives. Hollis in particular, joyfully and vividly recalls those early years of sharing with one who he began to admire because of her outstanding devotion to the task that confronted them both. He considered her as one of the more highly motivated and conscientious young ladies in the Assembly at that time. It was at this time news started circulating in the congregation, supported by a personal invitation to attend a forthcoming wedding ceremony. That wedding ceremony brought to an end all contact between Hollis and Merle for the next forty-five (45) years.
After 45 years, Merle's mother's failing health caused her to spend lengthy periods in Trinidad,as she saw it as her responsibility to take care of her ailing mother. It was during this timethat Merle and Hollis got reacquainted. This time the attraction was mutual, and rapidly increased, culminating into a world wind romance, not withstanding the distance of separation– Hollis living in Trinidad and Merle living in British Columbia, Canada.
The resulting fallout was obvious. Love has no boundaries, no age limitations, no distance! Wedding bells were set to chime!. Arizona was the place of choice and with all of their children and grandchildren in attendance, they tied the knot. There was a grand wedding reception, after which Hollis was stolen away by his new bride to a secret location! This was followed up by an equally grand a Honeymoon: A five-day Caribbean Cruise to Antigua, Barbados, and the Cayman Islands.
HOLLIS WHITE: BIOGRAPHY
THE FACTS
Hollis George White, born on the 4th April, 1934, in the village of Scarborough on the Island of Tobago, now known as the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. He is the second son of his parents Andrew and Eileen White, now deceased.
EDUCATION
When only a few months old, his parents returned from Tobago to reside in Trinidad where he attended his first school, Richmond Street Primary at about age 5. From the age of 7 to 11, Hollis attended the Carenage Primary School; and Tranquillity Boys Secondary from the age of 12 to 18.
EMPLOYMENT
In 1952, at age eighteen, Hollis joined the Trinidad & Tobago Police Service, where he served for 16 years before a gunshot wound reduced his chances of promotion, and so he left in the police service in 1968. Thereafter, he pursued his love for Architecture design and construction. He returned to the classroom and obtained a Diploma from the Delehanty Technical Institute in New York, United States of America.
On returning to Trinidad in 1971, he held a position as an Architectural Draughtsman with the Architectural firm Watkins Phillips Bynoe and Partners. Later returned to the Government Service and held a position with the Ministry of Local Government retiring in 1994.
MARRIAGE
On October 14th 1961, he married Jeannette Wyke and from that union produced two daughters, Renée Anjanette in 1967 and Giselle Therése Marie in 1973. A breakdown in the marriage relation eventually led to separation and divorce in January 2010.
On 27 July 2011 he married Merle Ryan, in Arizona, United States of America. They now both reside in Trinidad & Tobago.
