Usually the person behind the camera making everyone else laugh, Hollis rarely stopped long enough for a portrait. Very little retouching was needed; the work focused mainly on whitening the teeth and creating a more even, unified skin tone.

What Was Done

  • To create natural, healthy-looking skin tones in Adobe Photoshop , various color samples were made of the subject's skin. The airbrush tool was used to smoothen uneven skin tone.
  • The healing-brush tool was then used to remove skin blemishes.
  • The brightness-contrast and exposure levels were adjusted to reintroduce some of the natural light fall against the skin.
  • His teeth were selected, duplicated, screened with the opacity lowered to 50%, so that they would appear whiter.
  • The photo was then converted to black and white.
