From Identity to Experience: Building a Cohesive Brand and Digital Experience for a Growing Specialty Bakery.

Sweet Delights by Vicki is a Georgia-based specialty dessert business built around custom, made-from-scratch cakes and baked goods. Every product is made to order. Customers select their flavors, fillings, and design, resulting in a completely personalized experience. The business also caters to gluten-free dietary needs, reflecting a commitment to quality and inclusivity that runs through everything Vicki does.

What started as a branding brief for a new small business, grew into a full brand ecosystem: logo and corporate identity, stationery, marketing collateral, website design and development, social and digital advertising, retail signage, and eventually a mobile app icon and UI/UX concept. This is one of the most complete end-to-end brand builds in my portfolio, and it demonstrates what becomes possible when a client trusts you to think well beyond the initial brief.

The Client & The Brief

Vicki came to me with a business idea, a name, and a genuine talent for what she does. What she needed was a visual identity that matched the quality of her product, and positioned her brand with the elegance that premium custom orders demand. Customers commissioning a custom wedding or celebration cake are making a real investment. The brand behind that experience needs to earn their confidence before they've tasted a single bite.

The initial brief covered logo design, corporate stationery, and marketing collateral. The website came later, and the mobile app concept came later still. Each phase growing naturally from the strength of what came before it.

The Challenge

Small specialty food businesses face a specific credibility problem. They're often competing against more established brands on perception alone, working with limited budgets and no existing visual identity. The design had to establish elegance and trust immediately, communicate the personalized nature of the product, and remain warm and approachable enough that customers felt comfortable making contact.

Across the full scope of the project, this meant:

  • Building a brand identity from zero that felt elevated without losing the personal warmth that defines the business.
  • Creating a visual system with enough flexibility to carry across print, digital, social, retail, and mobile consistently.
  • Designing a website that worked as both a visual showcase and a conversion tool.
  • Extending the brand into a mobile app UI/UX concept that brought the browsing and ordering experience to a smartphone.

My Role

I led concept development, art direction, and hands-on design across every phase of the project, from the initial logo and identity system through website design and development, digital advertising, retail signage, and mobile app UI/UX concepts. What began as a branding assignment gradually expanded into something much larger: the opportunity to shape how customers would experience the business across multiple channels and touchpoints. My role was not simply to create individual pieces, but to ensure that every part of the brand felt connected, consistent, and reflective of the quality, care, and personalization at the heart of the Sweet Delights experience.

The Approach

The visual direction centered on one idea: elegant, classy, and distinctly woman-owned. The logo and identity needed to signal quality on first contact. Color, typography, and layout were each considered through that lens: Refined without being cold, warm without being informal. The logo and identity design was built to travel gracefully across every surface it appeared on, from a business card to a banner ad to a phone screen.

The website was designed in HTML and CSS with jQuery-based interactions. While it uses a legacy technical stack, it's showcased here for the strength of its design concept and front-end structure: Anchor navigation, internal linking for smooth user flow, and a layout that prioritizes the product imagery and makes it effortless for a potential customer to find what they need and reach out. For its time, the interactive elements were genuinely creative, and the design discipline behind them holds up.

The mobile app concept extended the brand's visual language into a new context entirely. App icon design for iPhone and full UI/UX screen layout development were both approached with the same discipline as the core identity: consistency, clarity, and a user experience that feels as considered as the product itself.

Mobile App: Icon Design & UI/UX Layout

As the brand matured, the project extended into mobile. I developed app icon design and full UI/UX screen layouts for iPhone, bringing the Sweet Delights visual identity into a mobile ordering and browsing experience. The app concept was designed to feel as considered and elegant as the brand itself, giving customers a seamless way to explore products, place custom orders, and connect with Vicki directly from their phone.

This phase of the project reflects the kind of brand thinking that goes beyond aesthetics: Understanding where your audience is and designing for those moments specifically, with the same care and consistency as every other touchpoint in the system.

The Impact

This project reinforced something I've seen throughout my career: every interaction contributes to the way people perceive a brand. Whether someone discovers a business through an advertisement, visits a website, receives a brochure, or interacts with a mobile app, each touchpoint helps shape their impression of the experience as a whole. By extending the visual identity consistently across print, digital, retail, and mobile applications, the project created a cohesive brand presence that reflected the quality, care, and attention to detail behind the product itself.
