  • JOSH SCHAFFER –
    German-Irish-Mexican Model
  • Great Model! I enjoyed shooting him as he was one of those half-crazy, artistic types! Very expressive! In retouching his photos, I wanted to keep as much detail and natural looking skin texture, from the original photo as possible.

  • WHAT WAS DONE:
  • 1. The shadows were lightened in Adobe Photoshop, so as to reveal the hidden detail.
  • 2. To get rid of the yellowish-green, uneven color on the model's face, these areas were selected, feathered, and color-corrected by adding blue, red and magenta.
  • 3. Blown-out highlights were replaced with natural skin tones, by applying the airbrush tool on a separate layer, to mask unevenly colored skin; duplicating the natural color overlay, burning in the right color color, merging all layers and then adjusting the overall exposure of the photo.
  • 4. To soften the shadows, yet maintain a hard, rugged exterior, the touch-up tool in PortraitProfessional was used, in conjunction with applying a 50% opaque, airbrushed, natural skin tone layer in Adobe Photoshop.
  • 5.The colored photo was duplicated, and then converted to black and white.
