Kate Ross Takes Her Vocal Talents to Sidebar 122

Fans of vocalist Katherine Kimbrough-Ross (aka Kate Ross) are thrilled to know that she is back doing what she does best following a second broken neck that left her career – and biggest passion – in doubt. And on Saturday, March 3, both fans and newcomers alike can enjoy Ross as she performs at Sidebar 122 in Columbus.

Ross brings a unique vocal talent to her performances, using her contralto voice to span a diverse catalog of jazz and R&B songs, including both covers and original music as part of her repertoire.

For someone who feels a true release when she performs, it’s hard not to get consumed by the music and atmosphere of Ross’ performances as well. She’s proven her talent throughout the years, collaborating with a wide variety of acts, including the OSU Jazz Orchestra, The Broad & High Jazz Trio, the Bobby Floyd Trio, Eddie Baccus, Jr., and many more. Whether she’s performing in intimate settings or large venues with accompanying orchestral acts, Ross doesn’t disappoint.

Jazz and R&B enthusiasts will want to catch Ross’ performance on Saturday at Sidebar 122. She commands the attention of the room with a classic, sultry voice that not only spans genres, but time periods as well. Her music is at the same time that of a soaring, modern style, but not before invoking the images of jazz joints of the past, full of the glitz and glamour that’s been preserved in our nostalgic minds.

And according to Ross, her music is certainly something to be experienced in person:

“It’s the difference between being at the [Horseshoe] or watching the game from your couch. You can’t feel the magic and the enchantment if you’re not there. Our music brings joy to your heart, lifts your spirit, and makes 80-year-olds and 30-somethings dance.”

You can see Ross perform at Sidebar 122 on Saturday, November 2, at 7:00 p.m. Her accompanying band includes:
Dave Irwin – Bass
Caleb Hutslar – Piano
The Governor – Drums
Craig McMullen – Guitar
